RAF_Quantum, snow in NE Lincs?

Post by Lewis - a2a »

Hello,

ill be travelling up soon to be with the family for Christmas and cant get a good answer out of my mother about conditions up there. Knowing how bad it has been up your way, how is it at the moment?

I'm dreading the drive to be honest and dont like the idea of hitting the lincs border or getting as far as Louth only to get stuck on the B roads! *-)

many thanks,
Lewis

Hi Lewis, I live only 4 miles from Lincoln and work in the City driving back home after work at 03.00hrs on a B road. At the moment due to low temperatures i.e. minus 8C all roads are OK. Like anywhere else in the country you just have to drive to the conditions!!

No snow here as it has all melted away (thank goodness) though the forecast as far as I know is that some snow will fall today but then Thursday Friday and Xmas Day very cold with frost and sunshine but that is the met for you, tomorrow they may very well forcast something else completely different!! :worried: Louth area can be a bit of a devil when it snows and can understand you feeling nervous as it is in the wilds of Lincolnshire but TBH no reports of adverse conditions as I write.

Hope that helps and wish you a safe journey and Happy Xmas with your family. :xgrin:

Kind regards
Nigel.

Many thanks for the update Nigel,

Its my yearly commute up to Grimsby, and its always been quite a hassle. The problem is that even without 'dodgy' weather I never know how long its going to take me and the lack of motorways etc certainly doesnt help. Last year I got stuck in traffic outside Kings Lynn and the Journey total time went from 4'ish hours up to just over 6!

Still plenty of bambinos (babies) to visit this year as I appear to be the only sibling yet to have a child, though I am the only one to leave GY so it might show something

I think ill be making my annual visit to Lincoln too to catch up with uni friends, so glad to know about all is ok there. Wouldnt fancy driving up lindum hill in the snow, I always think busses only just make it up the hill in the dry hehe.

Righty Ho, time to go pack, shower shave all the other stuff that needs doing when you visit family.

many thanks and Merry Christmas,
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

I live at Laceby and 'commute' to Killingholme and roads are all fine atm and have been since last week. We've had a few flurries of snow today but nothing to speak of. Weather forecast last night showed a band of snow sort of level with Midlands extending into Lincolnshire. I rang my wife @ 1545 as I was leaving work and she told me that patients (she works at D P o W Hospital) had been ringing in saying snow was laying in Brigg & Scunthorpe. I had planned to travel to Norwich last weekend but decided against it and postponed until next week sometime weather permitting. Very hard to judge weather by origin and destination as both may be fine but the bit in between is a bit of an unknown. Not sure which are best sites to get accurate road forecasts - AA or RAC ?

Regards

John
