The snow has been on the ground for a week now. the side roads are a death trap, the pavements are a death trap too. Why does hardly anybody now ever clear the snow and ice from outside their own properties, because no one gives a txxs these days about anybody other than theirselves. If we all clubbed together and did our little bit those skating rink of pavements would be much easier to safely walk on... I do believe that in Germany it is a legal requirement to clear the snow from outside your own property, perhaps we ought to have something similar here........Merry Xmas everybody and heres to a prosperous 2011 ( Vat at 20%, Higher utility bills, and petrol to hit a record high in January) well perhaps not so prosperous lol

It may also be because they're aware that if they clear snow off the pavement outside their house and someone slips on the exposed path they're legally liable. Whereas if you leave the snow there it's their fault if they slip.
Didn't stop me doing mine, if only to give my car some chance of actually getting up the 1 degree slope on my drive, rear wheel drive cars with 'high speed' tyres are rubbish in the snow. Set off quite a trend down my street although for some reason most pedestrians now seem to prefer walking on the snow and ice covered road than the clear pavement!!
The price of oil and gas doesn't really bother me with my air-source heat pump You should see the icicles under the condenser from all of the defrost cycles!
Lowest temp outside has been -10.9 so far where I am.

Did i hear correct tonight, the weatherman said its gonna warm up next week here in the UK...Fantastic news if it is true. If not im gonna have to hibernate til march, like those big bears do,its tooooooo cold....
Seen a few daft idiots up here with letterbox sized gaps scraped on the windscreen ONLY - absolute nutters
Managed to avert a bathroom frozen pipes disaster this week with gentle monitored heating of room with pipes to thaw things, and then leaving the cold taps on on a slow dribble when the house was unoccupied to keep the water moving, a tip I heard that they tend to use up in Breamar in the winter. Appears to have worked. I now finding the only screen wash for the car you can get in the shops up here is premixed crap good only down to -5 c. I'm using neat stuff only now. but starting to run out
