Another Virtual Air Traffic Site

This though has a difference

It is a 15 min delay unless you subscribe, limited to certain areas... (most others are limited to a degree) but...........has playback :)

So if you're out and see something play back that time and see what was around :) :)

Hi Garry,

Thanks for posting, i will be able to see the A380 now as i catch it now and again but can't be sure when and at what time she is in or out of Heathrow and when she is overhead my home, a great sight and very quiet for her size!

Great for a fiver a month and hopefully even with the 15 min delay it looks a great site as its in Europe.

There are other sites that cover the UK without delay but this is the only one with playback

These are the two others commonly used

http://www.flightradar24.com

Best run in FireFox or equivalent.

IE does not have the capacity and will error on Radar Virtuel for certain.

There is another that I use called FlightAware. Quite good and it supports IE.

I found the Casper site some time ago but forgot to post here :hide: It doesn't seem completely obvious how to set the date and time for playback in the Casper site, so trial and error :doh:

But remember that most of the Embraer jets and the DHC-8 do not show up on these systems - no need to have the kit installed yet.

And thanks to whoever posted the virtual radar sites around this time last year. I thought Nottingham was in the aviation desert but in fact it is in the centre of various routes. I can see traffic climbing out of Manchester heading east, traffic on the airways that go east/west over Lincoln and anything going north that has either come of of London or en route. Kept me amused in 2010 noting around 2000 aircraft over here.

Edit: further to Darren's post, http://www.planefinder.net/ is the PC version. It doesn't show the plane's details until you mouse over it which to me is a disadvantage compared to those in Garry's post.

I think it was Eddie (Vegas) that posted the Virtuel radar last boxing day

Opened up a new dimension for me too

A lot of 737 don't show either (all the BA are absent except G-DOCA and G-THOP is the only Thomson in that series that does) but along with the Emraers and dash Eights must be picked up somehow as they get reported on Libhomeradar and other sites reporting flights.

None of the BA 757's came up either or, it seems, any MD 80s selecting the playback on Casper seems easy enough with the calendar but the time adjusting by the arrow is a bit laborious unless there is another method??

Yes it's setting the time and then getting back to the display to show that time that caused me problems. Often it ignored my setting!

Agree about G-DOCA showing up and hadn't realised that was the only one of the 737s. The BA 757s seem to get upgraded electronics when they move to DHL (G-BIKS) and Open Skies (G-BPEJ) since they show up.

In general, I am surprised how many US 757s (American, Delta, Continental, US Airways) operate into Europe - the addition of the winglets seems to have given them a new lease of life.

And, as we have discussed previously, how few US 747s are seen over here.

All the ex BA 757 show up, just when in service

Yet sites report this missing aircraft so the info is gleaned from some source.

United briefly operated 747's to Frankfurt late last spring but other than that there are still no US airlines running scheduled pax flights with the type across the Atlantic.

The European Airlines that still do are slowly reducing their fleets although BA recently put G-BNLV back into service.

Lufthansa starts transatlantic A.380 flights from Frankfurt to New York wef 18th February so I guess their 747 fleet will pull back a bit but they do have a fleet of -800I on order so perhaps, in a few years, they will be the last airline operating the type on scheduled pax flights across the pond.

I saw just one DC 10 last year and of course no TriStars although one (N164AT) was put back into service on the 25th Dec with Askari Aviation. This had been in store and was originally Alia Royal Jordanian's JY-AGE

Air Transat the last major operator of A.310 across the Atlantic are moving more into A330's now. They bought some Mexicana aircraft although one is with XL Airways France. The A.310 are still common but their days on such services are numbered.

The amount of 757 is impressive. Back in the late 80's only Air Transat used them in our area on a regular basis.

FedEx are starting to use the odd 777 on MD-11 services, so despite the day to day movements seemingly unchanging, is slowly evolving.
