Fancy 007's Aston Martin??

Post by Nigel H-J »

Only in kit form...saw the advertisement on TV today whereby you purchase the magazine and they will send you the bits to make up the model. Sounds good especially when you consider what there is on it however, with 85 issues and each being £6.99 (the first issue is £1.99) The magazine will be issued every 4 weeks so if my maths is right it will take somewhere in the region of 21 months to complete at a cost of £596.14 :-O .........Not that desperate for one after all!! B-)

Now if they did a working model of a British Classic Airliner I might be tempted. *-)

Yes.. being 'caught' by the previous James Bond cars collection (which is still going), I've made a promise to myself that I'll never do anything so foolish ever again. I've page by paged issue 1 and there IS no mention of how many parts there are (I still don't know but am currently at 101). How many cars can there be.. I thought. There had only been 18 or 19 films at the time 8)

Anyway.. back to the 20lb DB5. Despite being authorised by Aston Martin and Eon Films.. it doesn't look right. I was talking to Garry about it the other day and he's of the same opinion.. it looks like it's been stood on

I think you're right. :) The roof line is too low making the windscreen and side windows too short. Or as you suggest someone late a night, maybe the cleaner, stood on the prototype and no one noticed it when it went to manufacture. No wonder it's only £596 to build. I think there was a model they did once (Titanic maybe) that cost over £2000 to finish

Looking at those 2 shots in close proximity.. look at the passenger door upper window line on the model and the real one. It's too square/flat and completely throws out the look of the car. The rear side window trim on the model is far too bold and that doesn't help. Small things maybe but at nearly £600.. I'd want it right. I'd also want the lights to work and the engine to work too

Could'nt agree more Dave. The finished model in the TV advert looks like its been sat on by an Elephant.

It looks all wrong.

People obviously get sucked in at the beginning and buy the first issue not taking any notice of the cost of further issues and the extremely high overall cost.

I've seen much nicer offerings in model shops.

If I was to get that, it would cost me $1,234.79NZD. :wall:

Why do they make these things so expensive?

I know little about cards but I knew staright off this was a bad job

Always a bad idea to compare to a photo.....true of FS paints too :hide:

As to cost, it mike work out more of a waste of money that at first seems :worried:

It was issued a few years ago and withdrawn before it finished....don't know if there was a way to get the missing parts but a lot abandoned it there and then.

If you really.....really....want one the safest bet would be to wait the 21 months when it comes up on

You're spot on there Nigel

This was mentioned on Britmodeller when folks say they'd like on but it's too expensive :worried:

There are bound to be some later on evil bay without the risk of being caught out if it does finish early. :)
