Sorry to hear about your injuries, I had a close shave the other day on the bike. Was doing about 50mph down a contraflow. Artic Lorry coming the other way blew a great big cone right in front of me. Must have missed it by inches... :S

It is odd I would have thought with the Police cutbacks CCTV would be needed more than ever.
Hi Simon, in a way yes, but the majority of C.C.T.V are run by local authoritites who receive no funding either from the police or government for their use, maintainance and wages are paid through the council budget i.e. rate payers, there are exceptions to this when shopping centres for example, require their cameras to be monitored by local authorities then a charge is made for installing and maintainance of the cameras which does bring in revenue. Unfortunately there is no legal requirement for councils to provide/operate cameras in City Centres for the purpose of preventing and detecting crime.

You were certainly very lucky Jonesey as when a cone is hit by an artic or any other HGV it is like playing tiddly winks, the force of cone impacting on you would have wiped you off!! :-O When driving artics and coming to a coned area often there was a stray cone somewhere nearly in either lane one or two, I became quite profficient at positioning the front wheel to hit the edge of the cone and send it flying back to into the other cones and away from following traffic.

Hi Nigel,

Sorry to hear this matey.

Sadly these sort of cutbacks are constantly in the news these days. The public sector workforce is also in the process of being butchered.

I know how important your role is and what an essential elemement of evidence it proves to be.

Some good advice and reference on here from people who know their onions, I hope it helps.

I sincerely hope that you don't fall on the sword mate.

Best wishes and keep your chins up. :worried: :)

Sorry to hear. I find it funny how on both sides of the pond the first thing they mention cutting is always public-safety related stuff instead of their various marginally effective (or negatively effective) social programs. Freeze police pay and hiring instead of killing the "community clean zone" that hasn't cleaned a darned thing since it was started but somehow still managed to spend a couple billion. Or cut public safety pensions and going ahead with a city-funded hotel...

Hi Eddie and Chris :hello:

Many thanks for your kind comments, just hoping that at the end of the day they will keep us operational even if it means cut backs on hours, staffing etc.

I know how much you guys in blue depend on C.C.T.V. in assisting with inquiries, lost count of the number of reviews I've done over the past 15 years!!
Best wishes and keep your chins up.
Did my double chin show up that much when I had an avatar??!! :-O

Kind regards
Nigel.

A few videos of the local councillors (or even better: MPs!!) misbehaving would help your cause ;)
