Sorry to read about this, Nigel. Perhaps they are just considering outsourcing the CCTV operation - in which case the new employer would be looking for experienced operators. It may simply be that the council wants to cut down on direct employees. Obviously your boss would have more to worry about if that were the case.
The present Mrs speedbird is also in her last couple of weeks of employment due to redundancy. As she's not the breadwinner it's not a huge economic impact but if she's home all the time I don't know how I can get away with afternoon naps when I'm supposed to be doing stuff I'm sure you'll have checked all your entitlements on the DirectGov website. She did and found that she was entitled to more than they originally offered and after involving ACAS the Company upped her package and gave her gardening leave as well. So worth knowing your rights.
I bet you see some amusing things, especially on weekends when a lot of us are inebriated...
Hi Ian,many thanks for the link, have added that to my favourites just in case.
Sorry to hear about Mrs Speedbird, any job loss is bad news but must be awful for you knowing that the afternoon naps will now go for a burton!! Hopefully she will find something very soon allowing you to carry on as before.
Regards
Nigel.
