They looks so much like the original Comets with all the vestiges of their military role removed
A sad day
Kind regards
John

Hi,
So much for our Security!
What are these people like, the money thats been wasted on the Nimrod over the last 30 odd years belies belief and then we end up with Bugger all!
Look on the bright side though, us pensioners not being able to use our bus passes until 930 in the mornings will certainly help,
Cheers,
Roger.

I've never understood the logic in destroyinmg comlete airframes. They should be used in some capacity, research or something. Absolutely nothing is gained from driving a JCB through them.

Re: Nimrods finally scrapped
Exactly Ben
It was a mistake to use the Nimrod as it was well past it...but they did and that's as far as that argument can go. Even if they put them in service without full capability and inadequate for the full task it is still better than nothing.
Out of date electronics......well of course it will be when they have it spread out over that period of time. It still works though to the standard of that time even if it is not up to modern times..again, better than nothing.
There would still be a financial loss but not so much and £200M just to terminate.
Actually the loss is no so great as it kept people current and available to build project.....call it the cost of keeping a manufacturing ability. It is throwing that ability away that is the real loss and a cost the country can not afford.
Madness to cut back like this at anytime despite history showing many times the foolishness of it..........but this time it is being done when the country is fighting a war
What on Earth are they thinking
What's the betting that scrapping is taking place so that no one can come along and reactivate the programmes and prove them wrong.

I wasn't even meaning that Garry, but fair point. Why not have them at Cranfield or somewhere that can make use of them. Even if they are not flying, a museum would be better than trashing them with a JCB. Soul destroying.
Ben.

Can you imagine wht the guys building them feel...some of the youger ones may have woked all their careers and not seen any fruits of their labour go into service

If anybody fancies a laugh, and wants to read some total claptrap, try this link. The scary thing is, I think he genuinely means every word he wrote!

Re: Nimrods finally scrapped
Hmm, he seems to have forgotten about the VC-10The Comet, designed in the 1940s, failed commercially and went out of airline service many decades ago – and since then large aircraft have no longer been made in the UK.
Indeed, it is sad the Nimrods are going like this.
What I do not understand is why they are scrapped. The Americans have a habit of keeping their old aircraft in boneyards for a few years after they are retired, surely we should do the same, and at least be able to recondition them for service if need be...
Its not as if it costs much to ask tghe americans whether we can borrow a little bit of space at Mojave or Davis Monthan
