Hello Mate..

I think he means he wishes SoH had a less complex library too. I agree with that.. unless you're a regular there, finding stuff can be a test of patience. Not struck on the 'new' Avsim. It reminds me very much of the Ponds library in that you can get a pile of stuff you're not looking for because a particular word is mentioned in the description. I typed in BAC 1-11 and got a mixture of stuff (as well as 1-11's). Not the end of the world though as I only tend to use Avsim as a last resort :)

Ah OK Dave, I get it now   now

I always found the AVSIM search as good as useless but I've not tried the new version. *-)

Due to their attitude I stops uploading there years ago and hardly ever use it now so maybe it's better than it used to be :)

But looking at the site now I have little inspiration to try.

The Library, Forums and News Page all appear to be totally different in style, like three unlinked sites. A very strange move.
I totally agree, if 'Avsim' is a brand which it undoubtably is, then why should everything (including the logos) be so different?

Bravo for giving it a go, but I think it needs some tweaks

Kind regards

Hi,

Just my two pennies but i think considering what Avsim have been though after the Hacker ruined their site they have done very well to get the site back up now and running, a lot of sites would have packed up gone,

I went on there yesterday and it had only been going a short while and i must admit it was strange at first after all the years of the old Avsim, infact i just realized i have been a member since 2002, where have all the years gone! but i found what i was after in the Library very quick, like Tom said things will take time to iron out but good luck to them,

Roger.

yep...things will iron out in time :agree:

But of course they didn't need to do this so they are just being a nuisance by doing so

Let things evolve slowly over time, no sudden changes like this.

Although I know they won't, my hope is that they stop mucking about and put it back as it was. :hide:

I agree with Dave, too many things grouped together. I go looking for a new aircraft model, and I get oodles of repaints.... and many of those are VA paints.

wt :-# over - they isn't even real :|

I'm speaking of Avsim of course

Dead right, Dave - I made the comparison because SOH was revamped in similar fashion, and I fervently hoped they would fix their search engine at the same time, but I was disappointed. It is better than it was, but still messy.

I looked at the library again today and still think looks bad. The old one was easy to use and I could find anything that I was looking for. Now I can't so bye Avsim.

Totally agree about the library Dave, and that's quite a thing for me to say given the obvious.

It's a very difficult balance to find, the Pond has certainly outgrown it's current library system. The big decision I've got is not only what to change it to, but to find the patience, will and time to sit and go through over a thousand files one by one!

I plan on implementing, properly this time, a 'tag' system when files not only belong to a particular category but can be 'tagged' and sorted by manufacturer or model etc. The only downside being it'll take weeks and be very painful.

Back on the topic of Avsim, they have done a great job after the hack, especially when you think of the scale of their site compared to those such as ours. I just can't help but feel it should have been planned and prepped ready and all together before being uploaded and made live.

I had the current Brit Sim on a test server for weeks before I was happy to close CBFiles and it's still full of annoying bugs. Avsim just feels rushed and untested.
