Don't look at Brooklands though. But is that really 1945? There's no gap cut in the Byfleet banking to allow aircraft to safely fly out during the war.
Although the imagery for 1999 is interesting. If only.
1943 comes up on the slider but i've not actually found any
it only shows dates availiable on the screen area which is why I'd not noticed it before as I'm not normally looking in those areas with the slider turned on

It took me more seconds than required to see what this was all about so I only really looked at 1945.. or what there was of it and in particular, Brooklands (as one would)
Darren..
I don't know the date off the top of my head but.. the 'cut' in the race circuit wasn't made during wartime. Aircraft were already flying into and out of Brooklands with the race circuit intact and it was the full intention of the trustees to resume racing after WWII had finished. However, a number of things conspired to make this not happen. Despite best efforts to camouflage Brooklands during the war, it was hit (and many times) by German bombs and this included the track. After close to 6 years of no maintenance and the reluctance of the 'Minstry' to let it go.. the track was in such a poor state, it was deemed too expensive to refurbish so the trustees decided to sell it to Vickers Armstrongs. It was some years later the cut was made although I'm not convinced the 1945 shot is actually 1945 either. Buildings that were there during the war and for years after do not appear or look like they were ever there
Found the Handley Page factory at Cricklewood, which I was sure during the war had an airfield next to it, which it doesn't on these phontos, so I suspect this might be later? Also a certain Hercules at Boscombe in 2001.
Also, just been looking at Edinburgh and Kirknewto, both of which were active during the war and neith exist!
Hard to say but still facinating when flicked from the until now ...Luton, Docklands, Croydon...yet a field just S of Croydon..Kenley...is just about the same now as then
