Re: What's goin' on here??
Also on the subject of movements, saw a Lufthansa A380 (LH405) today at FL 410 overhead Lincoln en route New York to Frankfurt. Seems like it's being doing that route for a month now so how come I missed it before?
And as for hex codes not matching the aircraft: E47EF6 = PP-BRW but currently N637TW - only 2.5 years out of date
There's another which i can't remember but it depends which box is operating whether it gives the current or previous hex value.

Re: What's goin' on here??
Hi Ian
It officially started on 18 Feb on Mon and Fridays on DLH400 but it didn't and few services have been by the 380
There was supposed to be two today but the main one DLH 400 was an A.330
Sometime the DLH400 swaps and the 380 does the DLH405 return
Last Fridays was missed but there were two on Sat and one Monday
It is supposed to be daily from mid April
The reason for the delay was the late delivery of D-AIME which was to have been in service in Feb but was only delivered on the 16 March
The delay was due to a shortage of engines in the wake of the QANTAS incident.
It was always going to be New York when they got 'IME as the smaller fleet was busy on Far East and South African routes.
United has Boeing 747 back on the Frankfurt-Chicago and the Singapore-Frankfurt-New York by Singapore Airlines is still a Boeing 747 which is quite a small pax fleet now with SIA although the freighters are still very much a part of the scene.

Re: What's goin' on here??
I'd be interested in tracking military transport movements, like to/from Brize and Northolt...but being military, is that possible?

Re: What's goin' on here??
A lot of military does not appear so is not tracked
Quite a lot of civilian aircraft don't appear either because they don't transmit position...FlyBe aircraft for example.
The odd RAF tanker pops up but generally there is nothing milkitary I see.

As for individual civilan flights you can Google the flight number and a tracker site will pop up, but again not military.

Thanks for the info - a mine of information as usual. D-AIMA was today's A380.
And yes I've noted the United 747s. They usually turn right at Grimsby and head North rather than the more usual track over Lincoln, Manchester, etc
As for military, it all depends on the kit installed. The airliner based stuff tends to show as usual: there were a couple of Canadian Challengers around this week, French and German Air Force A310,A340,A319 show up, some US Navy E-6.
If the ADSB transmission is incomplete from older kit, there is software out there that combines partial transmissions to give an indication of position. But you have to have one of the receivers to join in!
The alternative is to look here http://www.live-mode-s.info/ which seems to be those individual transmissions but as to where the source is
Edit: the occasional RAF Tristar shows up around Cambridge but I doubt the VC-10s have ADSB - they don't do clockwork versions
unless Tonks knows otherwise

Re: What's goin' on here??
Emirates A380 are getting boring
One a day into Manchester with the occasional en route across central UK from US to the Middle East. I think we are up to A6-EDN now so more than half way through the alphabet.
Air France A380 are only occasionally up this way - until this Virtual Radar came along, I had no idea how routings changed on a daily basis.
And until you've looked here http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/jetstream.asp you can't understand why some days everything transatlaintic out of Heathrow flies North while other days it goes over Wales
. And with corresponding adjustments for the rest of Europe.
Like I said, this Virtual Radar shows a whole new picture of airline operations.
