Good news.. the boiler isn't cracked. Some jobbie attached to a pipe (a thermostat I think) had decided it wasn't going to be sealed anymore and let go It's not been fixed yet (awaiting spares) but whatever happens.. it won't cost the same as a new boiler
Garry.. the boots were bought with what was left of last years birthday money and what I got this year. I was about £45 short last year so hung on until I'd accumulated the 'extra'. Over the months.. not only did the birthday money NOT increase.. it decreased significantly and with nothing to show for it. In the words of that famous Welsh poet.. 'There it was.. gone!'
Wasn't gonna make the same mistake again so counted what I had left and what I had yesterday and the total came to the waterproof boots (which are the ones I really wanted). Had I been short of target.. I'd have gone for the non-waterproof pair which are a fair bit cheaper (and on offer at Hein Gericke) and as I avoid wet weather, that wouldn't have been too bad. As it was, SWMBO said 'Go for the WP pair.. they'e what you want and you may never get the chance again'! Who am I to argue
