Remembered HMS Centurion, that is still off the coast of Normandy, sunk in 1944 as a breakwater for the Mulberry Harbours.

Quite a mixed career for an old WWI Battlewagon that survived the 1920s cull, including sailing the med disguised as a KGV Battleship. - http://www.maritimequest.com/warship_di ... turion.htm

A facinating thread. I was on Caroline a good few years back when a friend of my was a Royal Marine Cadet. Excuse the lack of correct nautical terms, but is there any significance to the HMS name plates being red?

They built 119 Ton class minesweepers, HMS Bronington has already been saved as a museum, others might even still be in service with minor navies.

Losing that one isn't a big deal in my eyes.

As for Bronington.. I was in the same Squadron (MCM2) on HMS Iveston which having just Googled, appears to now be TS Iveston :) I'll lay odds that Bronington was only saved as a museum piece because Prince Charles once commanded her when he was a baby sailor (and still future King) :worried: Nice to know Iveston (Deadly Ivy!) didn't go to that big mahogany forest in the sky :)

EDIT:..
Looking here, Broningtons future is very uncertain.. http://www.tca2000.co.uk/alook.htm while Iveston looks on in a superior fashion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oychNS-hG98 ;) Nice Nickelback music to guide you through the shots too ;) She was (as was Bronington) a Minehunter btw.. not a Sweeper as shown in the titles (though she could sweep if necessary ;)

Interestingly she's now floating in one of the basins in Devonport along with most of the SSNs we've decommissioned. Not sure if anyone can actually visit her but it does say HMS COURAGEOUS in big letters right by her, might wander by next week and see what the deal is.

One more forgotten Royal Navy ship.

HMS Calypso 3rd Class cruiser of 1883.

Remains today, rusting away near Embree Newfoundland.
