Must have addons?

Post by DogTailRed2 »

(this is a generic question that could fit into all three forums)

Hi,

What are the `must have` add-ons (free, payware, scenery, aircraft, whathaveyou) for FSX?
Especially freeware.

Must be FPS friendly and have a VC if aircraft.

Thanks,

Dog.

Whatever you want really.....

I can't think of a single "must have" addons I've downloaded for that reason and most I don't have

Yet there are things I wouldn't be without that are not used by many.

It's a bit like asking what you should be wearing this season.

Anything by RealAir tbh. Especially their B60 Duke Turbine conversion... :)

Blimey DTR, thats a HUGE question !

Freeware aircraft with VCs ? Well, Ants Tiger Moth and our own Mr Garwood's Auster and Beaufighter are all essentials. Also, look for Tim 'Piglet' Conrad's freeware FSX aircraft at the usual sites. His Skyraiders are excellent ! More later... ;)

Freeware & payware aircraft and scenery - depends on what you like and where you want to fly.

In terms of freeware addons I would get AICarriers and Ai Formation tool both very useful.

The one piece of payware I wouldn't be without though is REX (Real Environent Xtreme), yes you can get freeware clouds but it's like buying one page of a book. If you want the full story you need REX as it uses realtime weather data, changing weather patterns and amazing clouds themes and water.

Yes, it is rather good isn't it. Put that top of the payware weather/environment list, DTR . :)

Freeware aircraft really worth having are:

Ant's Tiger Moth http://www.antsairplanes.com/tigermoth.html
Ant's Drifter Demo (which is the float version) http://www.antsairplanes.com/drifter.html
Dino's T-45C Goshawk http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com/2011/ ... -link.html
Etendard IVM http://royalefrenchnavy.gratisim.fr/FSX_Creations.htm
Fouga Zephyr http://royalefrenchnavy.gratisim.fr/FSX_Avions.htm
Nord 3202 http://restauravia.com/page11.html
Sandim Mudry Cap-10B http://samdimdesign.free.fr/
Zlin Z-50L at Flightsim.com
Let Blanik L-13 http://www.fsglider.de/p_e.htm

Naval operations using AiCarriers program along with Nimitz, Ark Royal and Clemenceau

For gliders like the Blanik then Cumulus X generates ridge lift making ridge soaring excellent fun.

Using FSRecorder also allows you to make interesting flights.

Everything above is free and at the leading edge of FSX modelling

For payware FSX aircraft, anything by A2A simulations is absolutely top-notch...particularly with any of their 'Accu-Sim' upgrades.

Hi,
thanks for the replies. I've got pretty much all of the suggestions so I guess i'm on the right track already to the perfect sim.
REX is temporarily off my system. My download link has expired and not been able to ressurect it. As you cannot back up REX, you have to download it each time you re-install I find this a mjor pain.
Anyone know where I can get a boxed version 2.0?
Thanks,
Ted.

For me it would be Aerosoft's airports and AES and Ttools and AFCAD (or the FSX equivalent of those two) :)
