Improved Tyre Smoke - Landing

Have access to Forum via work though do not know how long it will be before being blocked again so going to make the most of this while I can. Yippee!!!! :excited:

Anyway, back to the subject header. Been flying FS9 since its’ inception but one thing that always appears OTT is the tyre smoke on touchdown, I know you can reduce the amount of tyre smoke by altering one of the files but found that by using the file fx_tchdwn_s.fx in the effects folder as apposed to the default one, tyre smoke is practically none existent.

When home recovering after my do, I played about with the fx_tcdwn.fx file and, although I had no clue whatsoever of what
(1) I was doing :dunno:
(2) or of the likely outcome of my actions :hide:

I eventually came up with what I think is quite acceptable tyre smoke on touchdown – not too much or too little however, when landing light aircraft there won’t be much to see including twins i.e. Dove. Having said that, with the real ones’ you would be lucky to see any tyre smoke at all!!

It may not be perfect but I am much happier with the tyre smoke now than before. Maybe there is a better one somewhere in the flight sim community but I never found it!! :dunno:

If you decide to have a try with it please copy the original file and put it somewhere safe so you can re-install it if not happy with the modified one.

Go to the Effects Folder in FS9 and scroll down to the file fx_tchdwn.fx, make a copy of it first and place it somewhere safe then edit the file via notebook deleting all the contents and then copy and paste this given below making sure you save it before exiting.

I haven't the foggiest idea :wall: I just backed up the original and played with this one.....then when I was happy with it..... I deleted the umm.................original :wall: :hide: :doh:

I suppose they could always compare them side to side??? *-) :worried:

You can use a program called ExamDiff to compare files. It is available here http://www.prestosoft.com/edp_examdiff.asp The freeware version will surfice.It will highlight any changes between the two files. I have found it to be very useful when comparing large files. I just tested to make sure it works with the .fx file extension and it does.
