HMS Plymouth to be scrapped it seems

The ship on which the Argentinians formally surrendered in 1982 looks like being scrapped on the 30th anniversary of the war.

That's a crying shame Unusually, it wasn't gutted when sold by the RN. The MCO (second shot) looks pretty much complete.. this is where I'd have worked.. which is most unusual. Those teleprinters were quite modern when I left the mob!

Sadly, it's a big expensive job preserving a ship without the option as with aeroplanes of putting it inside.

I hope they at least preserve the room where the signing took place, perhaps re assembled in a museum with manikins.

Seriously though, the tuck shop and some of equipment rooms could perhaps be saved too and re assembled on shore as a memorial as indeed some rooms were removed from old liners and rebuilt. The tuck shop is a timecapsule representing the humanity of the crew, reminding folk that when these men were not at station and in effect part of the ships equipement, they were real people with real lives something so often forgotten in history.

Too much to save the ship perhaps, but the spirit could live on in reality with a bit of thought and planning...perhaps even the Bridge could be saved like they do with nose only aircraft exhibits.
