Re: Turn your speakers up!
Multiple Merlins Magic.Nice bit of alliteration there.I love the sounds of all the large avaition piston engines-PW Twin Wasp,Bristol Hercules sleeve valve engines,Wright turbo compounds.etc.I would love to have heard the sound of the Napier Sabre as used in the Hawker Typhoon, what a brute,24 cylinders and 57litres of attitude.I bet Garry is going to correct me on a few points now. Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

What makes you say that EricI bet Garry is going to correct me on a few points now.
It's funny you know. I don't know what it is about a Merlin in a Spit as opposed to a Merlin in a Hurricane.. could be the exhaust (what little there is of one on either).. I really don't know but a Hurricane has a much softer sound.. a warmer sound if that makes sense. Perhaps some of the sound is being absorbed by the wood and canvas on a Hurricane where it's bounced off the all metal Spitfire. Who knows.. who cares.. they both sound a treat

That sounds reasonable (no pun intended), a Spit has more of a crackle. The singletons in the clip were good but the 16 Merlins together would be better on 4 Lancs.DaveB wrote: It's funny you know. What is it about us humans, we're never satisfied! 16 Merlins,.....but I'd rather........
I guess that's why we moved out of caves and can watch this stuff in the warm on a cold Winter's day.

Great clip, John. I've just posted the link at the A2A forum.
Now then, 16 Merlins eh ? I'll have two Mosquitos ( bomber and FB ), a Halifax, a Whitley Mk.V, Boulton Paul Defiant, Beaufighter Mk II , Barracuda and a DH Hornet. ( We can always change the Beaufighter back to Bristols so that the eye is no longer offended )
That little lot would fill in a few gaps on the UK warbird scene.
