Aircraft Flown Into Duxford

Post by thomasburnside »

I have read that many of the aircraft on display at Duxford have been flown in. Can anybody give my a list of which ones were flown to there final resting place.

The Duxford website might give you some idea, but I'm pretty sure it was the rule rather than the exception, i.e. most were flown in *-)

There's a video on youtube of the B-52 being flown in, most impressive.

The Viscount was trucked in as was the Ambassador, but most were..Herald, One-Eleven, SuperVC 10, Comet, Britannia certainly were. The Hermes fuse was ex Gatwick cabin trainer and the Viscount was an exhibit for a time at Liverpool. The Ambassador was preserved at Lasham for many years.

Doubtful Tom. They've been there for years now and were already 'end of life' when they arrived so the chances of them ever flying again are zero. The Trident flew in by the way. :)

Not a chance...all well beyond flight

A couple that possibly could fly out from their museum home are Trident G-AWZM and Comet 4B G-APYD from Wroughton.

Not going to happen mind you

People wonder if the Comet 'Canopus' could fly again but that could never happen as it is non standard and never was standard...but it would be great to see 'YD take to the skies again which despite it not a possibility it could be achieved more so than Canopus

The Trident at Wroughton is the only complete Trident3B in existance.

Cheers Dave...forgot about 'FB :$

Yup ;)

It's not like any of the aircraft were put into mothballed state. None of the main display aircraft were ever intended to fly again and those that flew in were decomissioned to put them into a 'display' state. Even a great deal of money wouldn't be able to make them fly and that's saying something

And don't forget that the runway is not as long as it used to be. The building of the M11 shortened it (not sure by how much).
