Hi Dave. I don't recall a John Thatcher, but I may well have. There was a mechanic named John who was killed after he hitched a ride to Shoreham and the plane crashed.

Ah.. it wouldn't be that one Dennis.. he's still going strong and part of the Vanguard crew at Brooklands :) While he was an engineer with BOAC at LHR, I know he used to do 'foreigners' at Fairoaks on his days off. It's possible you've met him on your many visits to the museum so had you known him, I guess you'd have recognised him. Don't see a lot of him now though.. nor most of last year. He was a regular on Sat/Wed but his wifes ill health keeps him closer to home.

How times have changed - a few years ago I was involved with rigging the flaps on an A340 after a flap change - and it was all done by laser alignment.
