It will be a sad day when the grand old lady retires, but it seems the way things are going we will be relying on others for some of our AAR requirements for a while

As much as id love to see one stay in airworthy condition I dont think its going to happen But fingers crossed.

Perhaps to keep one in ground running order like the Cold War jets at Brunters would be a more realistic idea. We all know the sorry story of 558 and the constant disappointment that project has brought. It has brought pleasure to those lucky enough to have seen it but do we really want to see a VC10 embroiled in this kind of situation

Keep it live and ground running as long as possible ...that is all I can see realistically

Love to see it in the air but the money would be better spread out elsewhere.

Too many exhibits, like the Cosford airlines and the Duxford Comet 2R etc fall apart an meet the scrapman, some not in bad condition, for want of love and/or cash.

Lets at least keep it alive, as someone mentioned on another forum, perhaps if one was kept alive it could be brought up to flight in the future if the necessary was ther but now is not the right economic climate, but yes, keep one fit and healthy with a glimmer of hope, but realistically I can't see it ever happening.

The bonus is, had the type not had a well defined RAF role, it would have died out thirty years ago after less than 20 years service, so we really have had a bonus with the Military...and the Sultan of Oman who kept A4O-AB hanging on for a while.

It's never gonna happen. They wanted to get Canopus flying again..... Only reason it worked for 558 was the huge public affection, which, apart fom Concorde, no other type would come close to generating.

As a ground runner, no problem. But as for getting it airworthy sometime in the future, it would have to have a complete major, insisted by the CAA. Costs would be a no-no.
