The Mayan Calendar doomsday approacheth !!

Yikes Ian! I bet that definitely got your attention.
So most of us know what we're scheduled to do on the 21st, but what would you like to do...if that day was your last day on planet Earth? I would visit my family and friends, of course. I'd then go to work to see a very lovely lady who makes me go weak in the knees at the very sight of her.
When I'm close to her she always smells like she just got out of a bath.
I'd then offer her the remaining contents of my checking/chequing account (I wouldn't need it anymore) for an afternoon legover.
So what would you do on your last day?

Does that mean Australia's world will end 11 hours before us in the UK and 16 hours in the USA ?
Or will we end on 20th ?
Or will we end on 20th ?

Hasn't it occurred to you that she wouldn't need it anymore, either, Brian?FlyTexas wrote:I'd then offer her the remaining contents of my checking/chequing account (I wouldn't need it anymore) for an afternoon legover. So what would you do on your last day?
I think I'd cycle up over the Wiltshire Downs, sit and look at the view of the English countryside with a bottle of malt whisky and Beethoven's 9th in my earphones.
(Thinks...bugger the end of the world, I might do that anyway

It might not actually happen.
Just in case you might like to make a plan B and place an advance order

Nice dog house.
Spent plenty of time in them when I was married.
Yes, I guess I didn't think through my plan.
Maybe she'll give me a freebie...being the end of the world and all.
It's amazing how many people believe in this garbage. If the Mayan's were so smart why are they no longer here? Sort of like a "psychic" getting hit by a bus if you ask me.

Many years ago a new, weekly magazine of astrology and fortune telling etc was launched locally.
It folded after about three months due to poorer than expected circulation
I rest my case....

Re: The Mayan Calendar doomsday approacheth !!
I've been checking out this Mayan long count calendar and they never prophesied any doom. 21st December in the Gregorian calendar is simply the first day of a new time period for the Mayans. The doom thing seems to come from a Sumerian prophesy that the Earth would be destroyed in a collision with the planet Nibiru about now. Unfortunately, it seems that with modern instruments it has been proved that the planet doesn't actually exist. But somebody decided to put the prophesy out and tie it in with an extinct calendar change and do some scaremongering.
The Mayans measured time in units. 1K'in (1 day) = 20 Winals, 20 Winals = 1 Tun, 20 Tuns = 1 K'atun, 20 K'atuns = 1 B'ak'tun, 20 B'ak'tuns = 1 Piktun. Well, it all started on a pretty random Gregorian date of 11th August, 3114 BC. 20th December is the last day of a 20 B'ak'tun period (1 Piktun) so the 21st is the start of another Piktun of 7885 solar years. A good excuse for a piss-up but the calendar definitely goes on! In fact there'll be another B'aktun to celebrate on March 26th 2047. Make a note in your calendar

The planet Nibiru?? Wasn't that where Luke Skywalker lived while he was helping his Uncle Owen with the harvest?
Thanks for the calendar info Ian.
It's a good thing I kept the receipt for my electric generator and my dehydrated foods.
