Catalina-HD...

Post by petermcleland »

I've been trying this machine out as a candidate for my forthcoming tour of the New Zealand North Island...I'm not yet sure if it is the right amphibian.

The video runs for less that four minutes and is best viewed with the Quality clicked up to 1080p and the Full Screen icon at bottom right corner clicked.

Thanks for looking :fly:

Thanks Peter. :)
Would you retract the floats on a longer flight?
I usually do it straight after lift off, as with undercarriage.
Cheers, Mike.

It looks good, Peter. It should cause quite a stir during your tour of the Islands

I don't know what you're going to pack, but if you're taking an amphibian, make sure you pack the latest version of Accu-Feel. I don't know if you already have it, so forgive me if you do. It now has adjustable water effects to go with the previous land and air adjustments. I've been trying it out on my Skywagon floatplane and it's bloody marvellous!

I've made a short demo video and, for the occasion, I turned the water 'drag', wave size and wave speed to maximum to get the best chop. I've also left the window open and pointed the view to the side to get the best sound effects. The 'drag' could probably be reduced a bit as the take-off run was a bit of a struggle and the landing was a bit short - but the slider goes both ways and is infinitely adjustable. Obviously Accu-feel is purely an internal, seat of the pants, effect and the exterior views don't show these effects.

The video is in HD and you can turn up the sound for best effect. You might want to take a seasick tablet first

Yes of course Mike, the drag increase with floats down is very significant, but that flight was just a quick circuit and water landing so I didn't bother :)

Ian, I only have the AccuSim on my A2A Cub but thanks for the recommendation for Accufeel V2...I will get it today and start reading the Manual. I am very encouraged by your screenshot of the control panel and note that a single button can toggle it on or off Globally.

I am also interested in a product called Sound Environment X...Particularly the AI Traffic sounds aspect...I miss my AI Blast from FS9! I don't know if anyone here is using it or a similar product to get realistic AI Traffic sounds?

Peter,

If you decide to take the Cat, there's a suitable paint job here - http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/fil ... na-zk-amp/

Colin...thanks for that...there was a Catalina based at Ardmore when I was last there.

Anyway, I have decided not to take the Cat as it is a bit ponderous and taxies like a drunken elephant...I'm now trialling a Carenado C206G Amphibian and it seems to handle well and I will be better able to enjoy the scenery in something more nimble :)
