As soon as I posted it, I knew somebody would pick up on it! However, room temperature is also incorrect! It should be cellar temperature, which should be several degrees lower than room temperature, especially nowadays with central heating. Room temperature is too warm. This also applies to red wine, which should be served 'chambrer' which is a few degrees above the ideal cellar temperature of around 10°C - around 15° which is cooler than most people drink it nowadays.

Going back to bottle conditioned ale - it should be served at cellar temperature of around 10°C and the most convenient way to get it to that is to take it out of the fridge and leave it to stand for 10 mins which has the added advantage of allowing the sediment to settle.

And you thought I was being sacriligeous, Eric. How could you?

Ian

I remember going on holiday to Hythe in Kent many moons ago, and in Romney Marsh I saw a Shepherd Neame pub with the brewers name painted on the roof. I think!

I also found a small air museum which I cant remember the name of off hand. They had a bits and pieces box of aircraft parts which were wartime remnants found in the area, and you could help yourself to them. I've still got a bit in the shed somewhere.

Back to Shepherd Neame, I understand they only sell a few other brands in their pubs, one of them being Strongbow cider. Another link to Hereford, as Bulmers is brewed in the city.

I'm not from 'erryfurd myself, although it's a wonderful county. Surrey born and bred.

Google has informed me that the museum is at Brenzett. Ex wartime RAF.

I'm waffling! :-#
