Both plips have died the death on my 406 so if I want to lock or unlock it.. it has to be by using the key in the lock. Trouble is.. I've left it unlocked for a month now and STILL no bugger will take it

My dear wife tells me today that locking her VW with the key does not turn on the alarm...We will have to read the manual to see if there is a way round this

The advice I read, Peter, is to just use the remote fob as usual and check that the bleep sounds and the indicators flash as normal. If the signal has been intercepted then the central locking will not engage. So if it didn't sound right simply check a door handle to ensure that it has locked. You'd only need to do this in busy car parks. Once it's locked the jammer can't unlock it - it just jams the signal.

And as I said before, it doesn't really increase the risk of your car being broken into as villains without a jammer will simply break a window, as they've done for years, leaving you with a pile of broken glass and an excess insurance bill. If you don't leave anything valuable in the car you've nothing to lose.

A jamming device doesn't do anything to help them steal the car.

Going back to the original post...It indicates that the device is not a jammer but a reader of the signal that it can then use to unlock your car. Every time the reporter locked his car, he heard it lock and then as he walked away he heard it unlock.

Hi Peter, as I said in my earlier post...

using the key is often a way to lock the car without arming the immobilizer / alarm system (for example, if you were leaving a dog inside). Needless to say, doing a manual lock without arming the alarm will invalidate your insurance claim if the car gets stolen or broken into
