Hopefully there will be someone here who has done it or knows of a way to do it without messing up my comp.
I was talked into a facebook account 2 weeks ago when I was released from nearly a month in hospital, it was well intentioned and I was mentally to weak to resist.
Any help much appreciated from the experts here as I understand Facebook does not like to let go

Re: Facebook removal
There is nothing installed by FB on your PC other than possibly a mention in the Favs menu. Go to FB/help type delete it will bring up a menu as to what to do. Be aware they only hide it for a specified period in case you reconsider, it takes several weeks to take it down altogether.

Hi Rich
Sorry to hear about your hospitalisation.
I remember that you have an ongoing condition, and often wonder how you are coping.
I hope that the visit improved things for you.

Not on it, and even the wife has now seen the light and deleted herself from it. Once you've "deleted" yourself, your profile will remain for 14 days in a hidden state after which time it will be removed. If during that 14 day period you logon to your Facebook account, even accidentally it will be reactivated, after the 14 days you're safe.
Hope your keeping better
