I'm sure Peter told us that they did that on occasion in the Tridents
Ben.

Re: Reverse Thrust Before Landing
yeah
..The Trident could reverse in the air, and the HS.780, but it's rare to actually see it...although you wouldn't see it on a Trident due to the internal reverser's.

Re: Reverse Thrust Before Landing
I'd imagine reverse thrust is armed, and the buckets deployed as airbrakes rather than thrust reverse power actually being applied prior to touchdown. It's not that uncommon: here's a similar example:

Pretty nifty installation, with the exhaust cowling sliding back and allowing the buckets to close.
And here, the "butterfly" reverse thrust vents are already open on touchdown:

But this is my favourite example of reverse thrust in action:

Re: Reverse Thrust Before Landing
Did he think he'd touched down already or was it in panic of a possibly overshoot?

Re: Reverse Thrust Before Landing
@Darren
As far as I know it is a quite common procedure on the TU154 and on the IL62.
With the YAK40 it's standard to reverse number 2 before flaring.
As you can hear at the IL62 link above, it's idle reverse...
Cheers,
Nick
