If you already know about 112 with your Mobile phone, that good, even so, this link may well give you extra important information regarding its use, especially registering for text message usage, watch it to the end. It does not waste your time.

112 has been available in the UK for many years now.I recall programming dial code restrict tables on PABX/Business Systems to allow extension telephones to call 999 and 112 which were otherwise barred from making PSTN calls.A good example of this would be a lift phone. :) EricT

I used 112 a couple of times when I had my first mobile in the late 90's *-)

Thanks for that, George. It'll give me extra peace of mind when I'm out over the hills on my mountain bike. I've just registered my number for the emergency sms service.

The video is very comprehensive and covers just about everything. I wonder, though, if it'll work if I leave my phone at home *-)

Shared it on my FB. Handy to know, I wonder is there an equivalent for Canada/N.A. re the texting business at the end?
Next order of business, to buy a cellphone I suppose, something I have avoided since retirement.
