Thanks Nigel. I forgot about that.
I didn't realise they are being withdrawn from service? Whats the thinking behind that and what are they being replaced with? The merlin is a bit on the large side I'd have thought?

Re: Sea King
A great shame too. Best day when a big yellow Sea King rescued me after ejecting into the Irish Sea, fantastic piece of machinery and will be missed.
Things wasted to a pilot:
Runway behind you
Fuel in the bowser
Money in the bank

Re: Sea King
They're really quite old and no one's building new ones?Whats the thinking behind that and what are they being replaced with?
Merlin is replacing the Mk4 Sea Kings, and the Mk7 eventually. For SAR it's being contractorised so whatever the winning bidder thinks fits the bill, e.g. S.92.
Re: Sea King
Perhaps our Navy will buy your old ones, we seem to be in the habit of it. Ours are ancient.
