Dave,I suspect that those who make such predictable and unimaginative choices are from the same stable as reporters who have to compare the relative size of something to a number of football pitches or London buses!!and why only London buses, are they a different size to those of other cities or towns? To$$ers! EricT
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!
You're undoubtedly right Eric and to add salt to the wounds.. those folk get paid for this drivel I was amused by reporting when the first A380's came here. On that occasion, they didn't use London buses as a means of measurement but Lancaster bombers. Imaginative.. certainly but relevant.. certainly not
There's an Alitalia MD-11at Kai Tak vid on you tube somewhere, where there is a rather rapid "50,40,30,20" followed by a Whoah! from the skipper and a bank angle warning!

The landing speed of a 747-400 is 130-160 kts. Concorde was almost always 160, so not much in it especially if the 747 was heavy
Concorde coming down the approach, very nose high and light at the end of a trip seems nearer to the 747, but the take off speed of Concorde was much higher.
