Situk with ORBX's SAK...

Situk is a part of the McLeland Field complex and I was wondering how it was going to fare with SAK being thrust underneath it...As it happens it is looking good:-


Situk is the home of the "Taildraggers Club"...

That looks promising, Peter. At least you've got somewhere to stay while the workers get the main complex straightened out You sound reasonably confident about the work required to get McLeland Field to blend with SAK. Fingers crossed and I look forward to seeing the progress.

I'm finding SAK every bit as good as I'd hoped and don't know which area to explore next. I've been tracking my flights using Google terrain/hybrid view on the iPad app and the accuracy of the terrain is amazing.

I'm finding SAK every bit as good as I'd hoped and don't know which area to explore next. I've been tracking my flights using Google terrain/hybrid view on the iPad app and the accuracy of the terrain is amazing.

I did a lot of comparison in FS9 with maps and Holger's Glacier Bay version 2...I was astounded by the accuracy of his work. I had to move my lighthouses to put them back on the land that they were supposed to be on...Holger made a little island for one of them...Then, with the default P3D scenery the lighthouses were all back in the water. However, I knew that Holger was making SAK, so I left the lighthouses where they were and waited for SAK.

Guess what! The lighthouses and the marine lights channel and the marine warning light towers are all back where they should be because Holger's accurate scenery has been placed under them and I am astounded to find the headlands and places where I put all those features years ago have now magically appeared in their correct locations.

One minor thing has changed since Glacier Bay v2...The Hubbard Glacier has advanced and pushed onto a Red Buoy and a Green Buoy marking my shipping channel and it has also pushed onto the second pod of Whales that I put in the Russell Fjord...So I will have to just change three Lat and Longs to correct those. Interestingly the Hubbard Glacier is known to be in the small minority of glaciers that Advance when all the others are Retreating...It has happened before several times

That is interesting about the Hubbard Glacier. I remember you mentioning that before but it's amazing that Holger has made the scenery so accurate that he's even modelled its advance! I hope it doesn't mean that you're going to have to contend with icebergs on your water runway

Two more bits of great news for you, Peter. Just gleaned from the Orbx forum. Holger and the team are now working on Northern California which will run from the southern edge of PNW. And when that's finished they're moving back up to Alaska again to give us some more icy wastes No clue yet as to whether it will be North or West and I expect it will be next year - but it's coming!

The other news is that PAJN Juneau, which is being created by Russ White (Ketchikan, Bella Coola, Stapleford), is having the same 1cm per pixel technique that he's using on Elstree (see my other post). He's apparently very keen to do more Alaskan airports - and I'm very keen to let him

Hi Ian...I think the advance of the glacier is showing because he is using more recent satellite data...Today I'm hoping to look at Harlequin Lake and the foot of the Yakutat glacier in that lake...Then I'll exit the lake following Dangerous River out to the sea...I want to see if he has modelled the Rapids stretch on that river (which was very exciting to pilot a boat down in FS9).

I have to say that SAK with all those airports is the best value for money scenery that I am aware of! I just can't get enough of it.

I will get Elstree just to see how my machine deals with 1cm/pixel scenery, but it is hard for me to tear myself away from SAK at the moment and I've got my NZ tour to continue!
