All this talk about Propliners got me thinking about the first time I saw a DC-6.

I think it would be about 1971/2, a Braathens DC-6B, LN-SUK, carrying competitors for the Annual Dance Competition at the Winter Gardens.

My view of it would have been pretty much as this,http://www.airliners.net/photo/Braathen ... 1497518/L/, except from ground level. I was only 10 or 11 years old at the time, and was greatly impressed by the sound and clouds of smoke on start-up. I did a search and came across an earlier reference to an LN-SUK (this time a DC-3) at Blackpool in an interesting article on Blackpool movements in 1959.

Oh believe me, I tell them all the time. They still don't seem to believe it... :dunno:

Their we-are-one-of-the-greatest-airlines-in-Europe-talk has turned into a we-were-one-of-the-greatest-airlines-in-Europe-talk over the past ten years. But the content is more or less the same. ;)

Cheers,

TBH, few noticed the change, even the name change goes unnoticed by many

Who would of though Swissair, like so many other great carriers would one day be no more.

When I look back to my boyhood days, everything seemed solid and would be there for ever.

The reality is, very little is left and much of it long gone with the later versions long gone too. :'(
