I think it was almost safe from the start of availability as Belfast Historic docks and Portsmouth have been fighting over who has it. I'd like Portsmouth myself as it would be a preferable location to see it but getting it to Portsmouth would eat into the cost, they were even suggestion of doing an SS Great Britain (or was it HMS Warrior?) and towing it from Belfast to Portsmouth but I'd always have worries over that.

Get it fixed and gunned up and it can serve as escort to HMS QE :D

With the Great Britain, they floated a sunken barge underneath and raised it out of the water. It came all the way from the Falklands like that.

I don't feel confident about it being safe just because it's been kept there all this time. How many historic aeroplanes were saved for ever only to be cut up after ta few years because the money was not there to keep it any longer.

This though, being a sole survivor should be safe, but still I doubt 100 percent.

For once, I'd like to see them just do it because it needs to be done and for no other reason

Yep, it was HMS Warrior that did 800 miles from Milford Haven to Hartlepool under tow in 1979 - http://rememberwhen.gazettelive.co.uk/2 ... rrior.html

And then of course towed all the way back to Portsmouth.
