Cycling - Bridge over troubling waters

Post by cjw50310 »

I was able to get out for a fairly decent ride earlier today. It's been a challenge squeezing it in with the less than clement May we've had out here in flyover country (aka the Mid-West).

Since most of my normal cycling routes are closed due to high water, I decided to head off on the trail to the aptly named high trestle.

Here's how it looked a month ago, with the river running a little higher than normal:

And today, after the northern bits of the state getting 7+ inches of rain throughout May:

And some "wildlife":

Now I fear I must tend to some yard work; the weather service is predicting rain again for a good chunk of the week. :(

Thanks for looking,
Chris

Hi Chris :hello:
Thanks for those pics. That's quite some change!
Any idea what breed those cattle are?
Cheers, Mike.

Which reminds me...
A little bloke from the bush was starting school in the city, and they gave him am intelligence test, with pictures of animals. He named the dog, the cat and the elephant but seemed very puzzled by the last one, which showed a cow. Eventually the teacher said "If you're not sure, just give it your best shot" and Johnny said "Well I reckon it's a Brahman-Hereford cross"

Yes, we can definitely speak of troubling waters too these days... :|

Luckily where I live there's no river,
but thoughts go out to those affected... and there are many not so far from us...

Cheers,

Nick

Mike - I believe the cattle were British White. Not a normal breed this far in land, but as my interaction with cattle is usually limited to meat counter at the grocery I could be wrong.

Chris - the bridge is an abandoned rail bridge. A few years back Union Pacific moved the right of way to the north. After they decommissioned the bridge all that remained were the piers. It took some doing but funds were raised to create a new deck and what not and it was turned into part of a 25 mile point to point trail. As a confirmed acrophobia, it takes a fair bit of personal courage to cross, I will freely admit.

That's a lot of water, Chris. No wonder you're nervous about crossing the bridge! It looks like a lovely ride, though.

Unusual cattle, those, I've never seen them before but they're quite attractive. Thanks for the pictures.

Ian :)
