HU BBC4 Tonight

Post by Tomliner »

At 20.00 .In the series 'Britain On Film' which features the old 'Look At Life' short cinema documentaries of the 1960s, tonight's episode is entitled 'Road Rail And Runways'. Could be some interesting classics in there. :) EricT

This was a really interesting episode, capturing the changing face of transportation in the 60's.There were some classic aviation images mainly concentrated in the final third(10 mins) of the prog. :) EricT

Thanks for that, Eric. I recorded it but was catching up with some of the other stuff backed up on Sky+ - Wild Shepherdess with Kate Humble. How unexpectedly amazing was that? To find a wild nomadic society in 2013 that's so remote that they appear to have nothing in everday use that their ancestors wouldn't have been using 500 years ago. Wonderful television and worth the licence fee on it's own

I'll watch Britain on Film tonight probably - I'm looking forward to it. Ooh, here's another tangent ... Anyone watching The Route Masters? I haven't driven in London for 30 years so I haven't got any particular interest in the subject but it's totally fascinating. Wonderful television and worth the licence fee on it's own  Oh, wait  ...

Ian :)

I think the licence fee is more than justified by the test card alone. :hide:

They are all on You Tube, or at least they seem to be either as the Look At Life shorts or the 30 minute compilations like this.

Some interesting stuff :)

Nev? Shut up!

Eric, you were right. That was one of the best so far of the series. There were some excellent quality shots of transport from the 60s. I really enjoyed them.

I've got the programme set to 'series record' but thanks for the heads up anyway

Ian :)

Hi Ian, I'm really pleased that you enjoyed it.I am quite aware that when looking back it can be thought there is a tendency to look through rose tinted glasses but I have to say that due to the presence of some things and the absence of others in that period that on balance this country was a better place and no amount of petty verbal sniping by some folk can change that.So there na na ne na na. :agree: EricT
