That's a good site, Peter - and an interesting article. I've bookmarked the site for regular visits, thank you

Another heads up for those interested in Alaskan Bush flying. If you have Discovery Channel, they've just started showing a new series of Flying Wild Alaska, following the adventures of the Tweto family running their small bush airline, Era Alaska from Unalakleet up in the far northwest of the state. The weather extremes make every flight a nail-biter. For instance in the first episode one of their Navajos was at a remote strip with no ground services. It had a puncture and was blocking the frozen runway exactly in the middle. They had to fly in an engineer with a spare wheel in a Grand Caravan and try to squeeze it in behind the failed aircraft on half the runway length. Which they did, of course, but it was exciting.

Hi Peter, Ian

Thanks for posting the link Peter. It was a good read, although I disagree with some of the opinions wrote. i.e. "The days of risking life to deliver vaccines are over"

Bolderdash!

There are risk doing the (in comparison to bush flying) sissy clear weather fling I've done here in south Florida. As minimal as there are.

Know it alls 8)

Anyway...
I enjoy watching Flying Wild Alaska very much.
They are one flying family.

Peter,
Ariel is a sweetie, isn't she. :agree:

Did you catch her first solo? .. very good with that crosswind popping up .
Almost gave her mother a heart attack!

Joe

I totally agree about Ariel. She's the cutest eskimo I've ever seen B-) She's totally fearless and full of fun and so natural but every time she gets behind the controls of an aircraft I get white knuckles! That first solo flight just about did me in

Still, if she's got a fraction of her Dad's skill in bush flying she'll do well. He's just so matter of fact about everything. And her mum too is an amazing creature. They certainly deserve to be TV stars for the entertainment they give. As do their crazy bunch of pilots.

There are some great clips on the Discovery site but the programmes make wonderful viewing.

Ian :)
