I have enjoyed his programs over the years,

One of the great TV presenters. RIP.

I read 'Whicker's War' a couple of years ago. He was an army war correspondent and was with the troops for the invasion of Sicily (a cake walk) and he was at Anzio (anything but a cake walk). His opinions of Montgomery and Mark Clark are interesting.
He was also the first British officer to enter Milan at the end of the war, he thought it had already been occupied, and accepted the surrender of the SS garrison there. I walk past the building that was the SS headquarters regularly and always think of him when I do. It's now a Chinese bank.
