I had a Raleigh Chopper when I was a kid. Got nicked from outside the pub (some years later I should add!)

I also had a bike when I lived in Nottingham though cannot for the life of me remember what make it was, bought it 2nd hand out of me pocket money when I was 14 years old and had the luxury of three gears!! My parents would not allow me one when I was younger as they thought it was too dangerous for me to be on the road. Now after all these years whether they were trying to protect the motorists from me or vice versa I have not been able to figure out!! :dunno:

Was not even allowed to ride it to school, :wall: from our house in Tavistock Drive to West Bridgeford but yet every Saturday and Sunday I would cover about the same distance from home to the P.D.S.A. Animal Hospital in Dunkirk where I worked voluntarily with the strays and the animals recovering from operations.

Really enjoyed those rides though cannot remember what happened to the bike after I left home at fifteen and a half to start work in the big wide world *-)

Hi Nigel.I enjoyed reading your recollections of cycling in Nottingham. However if you don't mind correcting you on one small point, there is no 'e' n Bridgford as far as I recall.
Re another recent post of yours featuring Lincoln, we were there on a brief visit last year. That old part of the city is beautiful and the street called 'Steep Hill' is very aptly named.I've visited Lincoln many times over the years and that Cathedral is awesome. As you walk from the Cathedral towards the castle and take a right turn, there is a butchers shop who sells lovely pork pies and sausages. Not sure if the 'Whisky Shop' is still there. EricT

Thanks Eric, though have to say there is an 'e' in bridge.....I just forgot to take it out when adding the ford!!

For some reason that always caught me out!!

As you say the Bailgate and Steep Hill areas of Lincoln are lovely, though unfortunately Steep Hill is now impossible for me to get up, the whiskey shop is still there on the Bailgate, I went in once looking for a good malt whiskey and ended up trying a number of samples before making a purchase though have to say their prices are slightly higher than Tesco or Asda but then again, Tesco and Asda do not have such an excellent stock!! I am sure that our Graham would enjoy some time sampling their wares!!

Speaking of pies, next time you are here from Castle Square walk down a short distance on Steep Hill and on the right a nice little restaurant called Browns Pie Shop I can highly recommend it, but be careful where you sit!! :hide:
