Well, if Bongo Bongo Land has laws that discourage people from getting so drunk that they piss on people doing their job then I'm all in favour. I've been pissed on, spat at and vomited on and it's not really as much fun as you might think.

Mind you, perhaps I wouldn't have been 'far too serious' about it had it been somebody with 'character'. I expect it would have been much more fun

Well you were probably puked, peed etc on by some complete moron - I've had enough of those to deal with myself, and not a "Demigod" of society - another "star celebrity" that people consider so untouchable and worship the ground upon which they walk. Personally I'm sick of these people being held high like maryrs instead of the real heroes of society who go unnoticed, shunned and even despised by the uninitiated (and that's an awful lot of people).

Mind you, I have a lot more respect for the sporting variety than I have for the 'entertainment' lot. Things like this show that they are not so immortally different from any other homo sapiens on the street when they are 'off duty'.

The Bongo Bongo Land reference - well, if you've seen the news today you will know what that's about - and for once I happen to agree with that "nasty, offensive, racist" man 100%.

I like people who say it like it is and don't treat us like uneducated simpletons and use us for their own ends. You know, like the Eaton Boys Club... erm, I mean the government...

I did have a bit of a giggle at the Bongo Bongo Land reference. I know exactly what he means but you just can't say that in public nowadays. Unless you're a UKIP politician, of course. How on earth do they get away with it? They certainly bring some entertainment into politics, don't they? Unfortunately one of them might get his collar felt if he's not careful

You have to wonder where the denizens of Bongo Bongo Land would get their designer sunglasses and Ferraris without the British taxpayer's contributions, though. China I expect!

Yes, you're right there, Alex - it's so easy to forget the 'good old days'. I'm astounded by how many people take issue with that phrase.

Look how far we've come on, they say - well you could debate that, but back then we were blissfully ignorant and all the happier for it.

I've been watching some old episodes of "The Bill" on YouTube - practically the whole series is up there and when I watch them it really dawns on me just how different things were, even just 30 years ago. I was a young, carefree squaddie back then and I thought that programs like The Bill were a load of old tosh that bore no resemblence at all to reality (so maybe a case of rose-tints in my thinking this morning!) but one thing is pretty accurate, as you mentioned - rearrangement of the collar, night in klink and home in the morning, usually with a caution (or a fine if you were unlucky or they had nothing much else on).

Didn't happen to me, of course, but did to several of my civvy mates.When you got a slap in the chops down the pub, you either took it on the chin (pun intended) or took it outside, you didn't reach for the phone and call your lawyer (or the cops).

Ah, don't get me started... Every day I hear stories on the BBC that make me wonder if I just woke up on another planet - usually 'human rights' 'celebrity' or 'EU' stuff. Sometimes I think we must be the laughing stock of the rest of the world.

Personally, I think that society is going down the pan - I just hope it doesn't go too far before I'm 6ft under. After that they can do what they like!

I seem to recall reading that the Human Rights acts were drawn up over 50 years ago with the best of intentions following WW2 but over the years it become rather abused.I believe that the UK was signed up to the 'HR' convention by a certain Mr A Blair,whose delightful wife is,I believe, a human rights lawyer.I offer no comments. Well, sorry for getting political, but I think they are all corrupt, self-serving wasters and I refuse to have anything to do with any single one of them. The last politician I truly respected actually did a lot of harm to the country's infrastructure, imho (dear old Maggie) - I respected her for her other qualities. I even liked her old pal Ronnie - the only US president I've ever seen giving a speech without thinking "what a load of bull".

When our local MP came canvassing a year or three ago, my wife was just coming home from work on her bicycle. She had to swerve to avoid him in our drive and fell headlong to the ground in a heap. He just stood and gawked at her as though she was Martian, whilst I tried to help her to her feet, then mumbled something and smartly disappeared.

A perfect example.

Another one is the other local MP who is a member of the Woodland Trust - always has one project or another going and makes sure his name is always associated with it. He hangs around at the local woods (the only local woods) pestering people, who are trying to have a peaceful walk, about his political agenda and trying to recruit them. If you are foolish enough to give a phone number - which I did before I knew what he was in it for - he continually pesters you with phone calls, supposedly regarding the Trust, but every single time he tries to start canvassing for his political ends over the phone and it's a real swine trying to get rid of him whilst remaining civil.

That's the Tories, LibDems and Labour covered, then...
