Hi Folks

One of the peeps at hovercontrol posted this link,
though you might enjoy it.

RIAT 2013 - Paul Holtom's photostream

I hadn't knowingly come across this photographer's work previously.

I've never felt so frustrated....... died so frequently/spectacularly/or needlessly....... yet had so much fun, in a long time.

Very impressive, professional looking shots. That chap is not your average with an average camera or lens ;)

Not wrong, Dave!
Having sat transfixed for the past few minutes, musing over just what is it that's so pleasing to the eye of aircraft enthusiasts, I popped back to make a very similar comment. He knows his stuff!
Cheers, Mike.

A superb selection of photographs.
A very highly skilled photographer - just look at the prop drvien aircraft. To get that amount of rotation on the props requires a very slow shutter speed, but with a big lens this is more than inviting camera shake. The images are however pin sharp.
Respect to the guy.

After wonder for the last couple of days why my RIAT photographs were getting such a high number of visits I think I have found the answer.

Just want to say many thanks for the very kind words from those above in regard to my photography work. Whilst I do spend a lot of time photographing airshows and motorsport it is only a hobby and so this recognition is very much appreciated.

I have my own website which features more of my work at www.paulholtom.co.uk

Thanks once again

Paul Holtom

Yes. Thanks, Paul. I'm still working my way through the fantastic RIAT photos and now you've given me a whole load more to view on your website. Superb, some of them. Quite exceptional.

Ian

Thanks for dropping by, welcome to the forum and thank you for your wonderful photos.
As you’ve probably gathered from my previous post, I’m absolutely in awe of your photography. Sharpness of image, combined with sense of speed from prop rotation is beyond anything I’ve yet achieved. Not to mention perfect exposure.
I’ve been photographing aircraft for many years and slowly learning, but have nothing that compares with your examples.
My own feeble efforts can be found here -

with my best probably being these -

http://www.kevinfarnell.webspace.virgin ... 202012.htm

My kit consists

Nikon D200 (hoping to upgrade when a D300s replacement is released)
Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 ED VR
AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E II
AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E II

All photos shot in RAW mode.

If you would pass on any advice, I would be extremely grateful.

Kind Regards

Kevin

Kevin :hello: ,
You're modest by a large slice, my dear chap.
Were your photos used in a calendar?
I saved several for years, but when all my aviation stuff was moved out of the house and into a shed, many paper items suffered terminal damage.
I rescued the odd page and put them up in my little museum. Had a look today, but didn't have my specs on, and couldn't read any of the small print.
Cheers, Mike.
