Great photo's, but those airborne Beverley shots, to me, look like the Beverley shouldn't be capable of flying unassisted

No, I know what you mean. It was on the verge of being under-powered - 170 mph cruising speed. (slower than WW2 Bombers!) I suppose it could have been Proteus powered, but apparently, early turboprops couldn't drive reverse-props, which a STOL transport needs to have.
