Virtual Cockpit Tours

This might have been posted before, but I have a feeling that they've recently expanded the number of tours. For example, they did have a view of the B-36's flight deck, but now they've added other positions. The Peacemaker is a very interesting aircraft anyway, so it's great to be able to have look round inside.

Paul, many thanks for the link. Used to visit there when I was on the internet but completely forgot about it until you put up the link. Unfortunately nearly used up all my time on the library computer just browsing through the tours!!

Thanks Paul, that's a terrific site.

Some of the seats in the B36 look lovely and comfortable for a flight of many hours to deliver 72,000lb of "Peace".

It only became a peacemaker on retirement. The definition is a type made and kept fully combat ready but never needed to be used in anger.

I don't know if the B-36 was ever used...can't think of anything, but that is the definition of a peacemaker. Flexes it's muscles and maintains peace during it's lifetime as a part of a military force that makes an enemy shy away from that. Sort of defence by fear of attack in retaliation.

Those are mind-boggling tours! Thank you both.
When I think back to the Spitfire gate guardian at Uxbridge, and recall that we, the public, were not allowed past the barrier to get even close....and now this.

There is also a panorama of a Mark IX Spitfire cockpit, and a virtual tour of the Duxford-based Catalina.

For both aircraft, all the controls, instruments, and switches are explained. In the Spitfire you can (virtually) start the mighty Merlin engine - turn up the volume!
