Don't know if this has made the news in the Northern Hemisphere.
Our Queensland mate may not be able to read this yet, as there's a lot of power and communications out.

Mike, thanks for the kindly thought, but where I live was unaffected - barely 2" of rain over the three days. There is a lot of damage in Central Qld, about 1000km (600 miles) north of me. The remnant of the cyclone changed direction and headed S-E. Brisbane, The Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and Ipswich got a lot of rain from that.
Garry, thankyou too...Bris-bunn got a lot of rain, but Feb is our wettest month usually. I am about 50DME W of YBBN . I was going to say it was on the Beebsite, then I remembered you are not in Beebland these days.
The cyclone did a lot of damage in Central Qld, where it crossed the coast as a Cat 5. It quickly diminished to a an ex-Tropical Low, then changed course from S-W to S-E, which meant I just got the edge of it, while Greater Brisbane got the lot.

"West of sunny Brisbane" could be a number of places. In fact "East of..." would have me wondering how long your anchor chain was.
BTW, as a VFR only sim "flyer", is 50DME the same as 50NM? (just so I know for the future).
Not quite, Mike - DME gives a slant distance, so it depends on your altitude, but for practical purposes it is not too far off the mark.
Depending on the wind patterns, I can get lots of international stuff passing overhead, and if I put the Airband Radio on, they are calling " on descent, 8000' " just after.
Why they can't just line up the end grain silo, the big mango tree and the level crossing to get on track for YBBN is beyond me

The good thing is, so far there seem to be no fatalities or casualties from either cyclone, but some of the remote areas are still isolated, no power, no landline phones etc. so there could be some we have not heard of yet.
