I've come across a few, but they are usual the small back street shops. Long gone off the High Street.

Yes, the poor back street shops no one comes to visit anymore.

Airfix FW190. I put the wings on backwards and covered the cockpit canopy with glue

Same here, I don't remember my first model but did build many (badly - always in too much of a hurry to build them and then put the decals on and try and paint around them )DaveB wrote:Much like me Paul. I have absolutely no idea which was the first I bought.. I had so many The Saturday morning ritual included Woolworths in Walsall and another small shop called Backhouses. ATBI have no idea what the first kit I made was, but well remember the Saturday morning ritual.

Dave, I rarely ventured into Walsall to get my models, as there was a newsagents in Bloxwich high street (we called it 'Mr Baker's' after the manager, who was a very pleasant man), which carried most of the Airfix and Matchbox range.
Likewise, given pocket money on a Friday night and it was all spent on Saturday morning .
Not sure about Backhouses, but do remember a wonderful model shop at the back of the ABC cinema (or The Savoy as I think my Dad called it). Were thy one and the same?
Regards
Kevin

That's often where Charity shops and discount stores sit and you can end up with the best shopping in such places.

Right, cause it's not all about the money, it's about helping people.

Re: Your First Airfix Model?
The one at the back of the ABC was my favourite and where I got all my Tamiya 1/32 models from (Kubelwagon e t c) plus the Lotus and Tyrell The lot has gone.. knocked down and re-built.. so much so I don't recognise where the shop actually was! Backhouses was near the end of the arcade (from Park Street to the bus station).. the middle arcade, not the one next to WH Smiths which, against the odd's, is STILL there! Not sure about Backhouses, but do remember a wonderful model shop at the back of the ABC cinema (or The Savoy as I think my Dad called it). Were thy one and the same?

Dassault Mirage III.
Sometime after a 1/24 Harrier , little did I know at the time that I would end up for 4 + years playing with real Harriers.
Drifted into tanks and vehicles by Tamiya and Ertl. Best aeroplanes were 1/48 by Monogram and Esci
