Are Add-Ons Becoming too Expensive?

Post by Nigel H-J »

Went to Just Flight and although impressed with this aircraft the question begs "Are they in some cases becoming too expensive?"

I know a lot may have been put into making it but at this price I could not justify the expense even if I could afford it (which I can't anyway). 8)

Hi Nige..

This particular product has been expensive from day one mate. I have the 'Pilot' edition and it was darned expensive even with 25% off :| There's an option for current users to upgrade to the 'Pro' version but I won't be taking JF up on the offer.

Nip over to Milviz and check out the prices of their F4 Phantoms :-O

Loved the video when the autopilot called 'minimums' with no sign of the runway, but the pilot continued to touchdown!

I have to non pro version and to be honest I never use it. I found the original dash 100 by Fanda so much better.

At least it's still cheaper than the PMDG 777 for P3d, @ $135 / £90. :-O
There is a hell of a lot of work put into these sims, and there are plenty of people willing to pay for it. I suppose if you intend to spend a lot of time studying / flying these then they can be worth the money. :dunno:

Good lord man.. £90!! :-O The type of models PMDG make have never floated my boat so I've never taken notice of how expensive they are.

What you say is correct though. These models are system intensive and can be flown pretty much exactly like the real thing. For that.. you pay a premium.

I've got the NGX, & really like it. :hide: It's not as expensive as the 777, but not cheap either.
Haven't got the Dash-8 as I can't stand the look of the aircraft. :worried:

Agree.. it's not the sort of aircraft you spend a lot of time 'outside' admiring  Getting the bloody thing to fly straight takes up most of your time anyway 8)

I honestly do not think they are getting too expensive because during special sales few times a year, the add-ons are BARGAIN cheap.

Ten bucks for any Captain Sim plane once a year is expensive?

50 percent Black Friday sales on many add-ons is expensive?

Nah you just need to be clever and patient shopper to get add ons for special sale.

I am too embarrassed that I blew chance for 50 percent off on Sim720 sceneries for two Scottish airports.

A lot depends on if you're willing to wait a year for a Captain Sim bargain or for the latest and greatest 'new' models to actually appear in a sale. Many don't appear in sales or if they do.. the reductions are small.

I like to put it in perspective mode when I see these pricings. In this case it is $90 or so, which is what I would expect to pay for one often disappointing meal out, whereas the software will give years of return. e.g. I am still regularly flying in FS9 the PMDG B737's which I bought when I still lived in London 10+ years ago.
