Training flight crash

Post by Diyceejay »

I'm mortified....
training flight no. 4 on the bac 1-11, going well egcc to Zurich until over Luxembourg I get the fsx critical fuel warning.....
No worries I thought, I still have plenty of fuel in the main tanks, and they're the ones that matter right?....
Fsx didn't think so and I hurriedly quit when plummeting towards France.
So, can anybody tell me what I did wrong after having calculated the fuel for the journey with reserves block diversions etc and fuelled us on fsairlines? I'm using fsx acceleration 1.0 with DM 1-11 510ED and the fsx upgrade from Bjoern via cbfs forum. Why did fsx not detect the main tank fuel?
Apologies for the va reputation everybody....I hope it doesn't count on training....?

Pilot error.

a) You've used the wing fuel first -> HUGE no-no.
b) Tank switching is manual. Center tank valves open -> draw from center. Closed - > draw from wings.

Hi Chris
Dont worry we would all be spread around the scenery if it was real flying  Just remember to bomb out of fsx before hitting the ground. The va client will just pick up changed position and you loose the flight.
No reputation lost for va as its a training flight, only yours
A/c should draw fuel from center tank until empty then draw from wing tanks You can switch off center tank pumps once fuel is exhusted, its up to you. I fly DM's 1-11 unmodified, (well sort of ) I don't see Bjoern's update being any different re the fuel management
Cheers
Dale

Edit Looks like the bits fell over Luxemburg. I imagine you have a flight following to Zurich. You need to fly it before it expires. (used to be 24 hrs) otherwise you and a/c are stranded ( you can buy a ticket back but it takes a letter from the Pope or Dave M to sort the a/c)

Fuel in the wings increases stiffness and therefor reduces reaction to aerodynamic forces (flexing, twisting, etc.). That's why it's always used last.

Yep, it works pretty much the same. Don't want to invest too much energy into the 1-11 since it was basically relegated to my museum, but a small add-on gauge that auto-forces the center tank valves off (and therefor switches to the wing tanks) below a certain fuel level could be doable. *-)

Thanks for the kind words and tips gentlemen. Much appreciated.
Ticket back to egcc, message to DM regarding the a/c, and a successful leg flown with fuel flow a success.... Thank you again.
