Vale Stephen Hawking
Sadly, we have lost a highly intelligent member of our race. RIP.
Re: Vale Stephen Hawking
Yes sad news. The incredible thing is how his brain power kept him going and outliving his body. I hope he gets his wish and gets his ashes blasted into space.

An amazing man. I like what Richard Dawkins wrote about Prof Hawking...
“Silent face, the marble index of a mind forever voyaging through strange seas of thought, alone.” Wordsworth was writing of Newton, but he might have been foreseeing the silent face of Newton’s great successor as Lucasian Professor.

Re: Vale Stephen Hawking
I saw him a couple of times round Cambridge over the past twenty years, in his wheelchair and with someone looking after him. I sometimes wonder if his disability made him focus on his mind, and what he could do with it. A kind of compensation, or a way to bring fulfilment into his life, maybe. In a world where plaudits are cast like confetti, he was the real deal - a man of true genius, a scientist whose work will always be referred to.
On top of all that, he featured on two albums by Pink Floyd ( also famed Cantabrigians ), which is the same number as Syd Barrett.
RIP Stephen

Re: Vale Stephen Hawking
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Stephen Hawking. All of us have been fortunate to spend some of our time on this planet with one of the greatest minds humanity has ever seen.

If this was his wish, I would be surprised if Elon Musk doesn't step up to honour it through his SpaceX programme.
