Singapore Air Services

Post by Paul K »

Does anyone have any information on this defunct airline ? Google searches only lead me to the present-day Singapore Airlines.

Here's the only picture I've come across:

I'd love to know a bit more about them and find some more photos of their DC-3s ( colour if possible )

Tough nut to crack!
Used various search engines, and all I've come up with so far is:
http://aflyinghistory.com/search-aeropl ... r+Services
I'll keep looking :worried:
There were evidently at least 4 aircraft in that scheme, but there are no words to go with the pictures.
The name does not even get a guernsey in the list of defunct airlines, or in the histories in Wiki for Malaysian or Singapore.

Cheers, Mike - yes, that's the same site my photo came from, and as you say, it's just about the only thing that Google coughs up. Any further info would be gratefully received, as and when you come across it. Routes, aircraft, people, dates...anything. :)

Cheers, Brian. If all the dates are accurate, 9V-BAN was in service with Malaysian Singapore Airlines before Singapore Air Services, 1967 and 1969 respectively. I've been looking through the origins of Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines, as they have common roots, but can find no reference to Singapore Air Services. I am intrigued, but then most things about Singapore intrigue me. :)

Like I said Paul, even reading the individual histories of MSA and SIA, neither of them refer to SAS, they only talk of being together, then going their own ways.
Maybe it was a short term paint job, with the operations being listed under MSA?
There are contact details for both on line, so you could email them and ask for their comments on SAS.

Mike, I too was wondering whether it might have been a temporary company ( with temp paint job ) that existed between the split from MSA and the setting up of SIA.

Thanks for your efforts chaps. I shall investigate further and report back if I find anything out. :)

Hi Paul

Found this information .

Singapore Air Services

Status : Renamed / merged
Dates :

1968 - 1969
Airline Code : -- : ---
Genealogy : Air Taxi > Singapore Air Services > Saber Air
Comments : Saber Air was formed in 1966 as Air Taxi Ltd, changed its name to Singapore Air Services in Nov1968. In 1969 the Singapore Government acquired an 80 per cent interest, and the name changed once more to Saber Air.

Hope this helps
O
