One of our Aircraft is missing (Prentice)

Post by Okami »

Hi all,

Returning from a long and forced rest from Flightsimming due to what I can call a 'virtual hangar fire' in 2016 - that is: my dedicated Flightsim HDD disintegrating, taking all of its contents with it, and me being stupid enough not to have any of it backed up  - I've slowly been trying to rebuild my collection.

While most of the aircraft from my collection have been easy to track down, a single one has so far managed to elude my attempts at locating it: the Percival Prentice for FS9.

Now I recall that back when I first got it, there had been a good number of texture files which had been uploaded to Britsim - but obviously the Britsim site went the same way as my own collection, into virtual oblivion, and none of the Prentice files ever seems to have made the transition to avsim, flightsim, sim-outhouse, simviation or any of the other sites.

So the question is: anybody know any place where I could possibly locate myself a virtual Prentice and/or any repaints for it?

...

Or alternately, anybody got any idea how deep I would have to dig on the old Stansted fire dump to find one?

Hi Okami, :hello:
You might just have to make do with a Proctor; there seems to be some of them available.
I've been unable to find any Prentice in my hangar, or on the web.
Now watch somebody prove me wrong!

Prentice - I used to have one, but it was incomplete IIRC, & it was from Argentina?
I will look in my old files to see if I still have it, otherwise all my Percival models are over at Flightsim, usually with loads of repaints by Peter Watkins.
I am still working on a Vega Gull series 3.

I do have the Prentice in my FS9 folder and I guess I could zip up that version.

The original file was Prentice_beta_1b.zip but I can't remember whose it was and the aircraft.cfg, checklist.htm and reference.htm don't help.

I have these paints: VR227, VR252 & G-AONB (no details on who did these, either)

The base model was G-APJB

There is a Prentice out there although I think it be FS2004. Percival_Prentice.zip No idea where I got it and the read me is in Spanish and the depicted a/c is Argentinian.
A read me in a repaint states it is Jeff Marsh's Prentice. There are numerous UK paints by Peter Watkins

Thank you very much for the replies so far!

I seem to remember the original (beta) project was somehow associated with Air Atlantique and a flight simulator at their Coventry base. I found a link to the original download, but as happens it too had expired.

The Argentinian version was just that - the Beta with the original textures removed and substituted for an Argentinian set. I seem to remember that its discovery led to the original textures being downloaded onto Britsim.

My own Prentice had all the textures from Britsim, which if I remember correctly, included the Air Atlantique ones, a number of stock RAF ones, some sets for the Lebanese and Indian Prentices, and a share of those that escaped the fire dump at Stansted, including a Maitland-owned one.

If only I had properly backed up the lot - in fact I did, only to realise afterwards that the backup was on the same hard drive that contained my Flightsim installation (and that had gone up into smoke...!!)

Giving the Percival Prentice some much-deserved love!

I created 12 repaints for Jeff's Prentice in 2011 and uploaded them to Britsim. The Argentine site that has the beta file available still exists :
www.flightsimulatorarg.com.ar/aviones9_2004.htm
I still have the zip files I originally uploaded to Britsim. If anyone wants them I guess I could upload them to Sendspace.
VR227, VR252 & G-AONB were all mine!

Hi Peter,

That would be a yes from me there, those paints surely added a lot to the old girl! :)
