The retiring party paid $80,000,000 for access to floodwater running off a property. The recipient of the cash may not be an actual farmer, but an offshore tax haven company which trades in water rights.
They also paid $55,000,000 to Cambodia, to re-settle boat people. A total of three refugees went to Cambodia under this plan, and I think that one or two of them did not stay. There are other disturbing details, which you may or may not care to look up.
They want us to re-elect them on the basis of their economic performance.
The other major party is promising all sorts of goodies, which their opponents say are not costed.
Both parties seem to be doing little else than accusing each other of wrong-doing.
They decided to honour Anzac Day by pausing campaigns, which was nice but for TV and radio filling in with news of the pause, followed by rehashes of the past week of campaigning.
An independent candidate who has reputedly spent over $35,000,000 promoting his cause, is associated with a defunct nickel processing company, which owes millions to ex-employees, goodness knows how much to creditors, and, we hear, $75,000,000 to the Federal Government. This latter may be to do with the environmental time bomb donated by the company to the people of Australia, when it abandoned waste ponds.
Oh, nearly forgot the candidate who resigned from his party after video of him groping strippers surfaced. Apparently he was drunk, so it was out of character. He was also drunk when he was mouthing off to the NRA whilst trying to get financial support for his party. Maybe just being drunk is "in character" for him? Though he resigned, apparently his name is still on the ballot papers.
Anyway, of course I'm giving you this background so that you can offer suggestions as to how I should vote.
Thankfully, there is no State election, because there is a fight on to stop a big ship from being permanently anchored in Westernport Bay, (Victoria). The ship is to take on imported LPG and turn it into gas for local use (40Km inshore). I thought that LPG turned into gas when pressure was released, but this ship needs to suck up clean water and pump out chlorinated water.
