An item that doesn't reveal much other than the "2 petabytes of geographical data", which is interesting. Streaming scenery, I presume.

Having thought about this new Microsoft Flight Simulation and of Pauls' comment
I would be very surprised indeed if there was a one-off payment to use it. I only hope that if my thinking is correct then Microsoft will not reach for the sky for a licence but instead consider that many of their customers will be of retirement age as well as those younger so there must be a balance of costs to reflect affordability for those wishing to fly the new Microsoft Flight Simulation.
I could be wrong but somehow I just feel that we could end up having to pay a monthly fee.
Regards
Nigel.
I believe that in order to use it an account will have to be created and fly from their servers as 2 petabytes is an incredible amount of data and Microsoft will, so as to recoup their money possibly charge on a monthly/annual basis for those who wish to use it.An item that doesn't reveal much other than the "2 petabytes of geographical data", which is interesting. Looks like $10 a month, let us see how Lockheed Martin respond to this.

Hi Nigel,
I'm still known to lurk. It's been a crazy few years. Married, divorced, changed jobs and now applying to go back to the old job. Life's been all over the place that's for sure!
Promise I won't leave it so long this time!
Hope you're well and all's good in your part of the world.
Rob

Hi Rob Seems like you have had an 'unlucky period' of the last few years and hope that you soon find yourself back to a normal and happy self.Hi Nigel,

All well here and enjoying retirement albeit taken earlier than planned due to ill health and disability. Really pleased to see you back and wish you all the very best in applying for your old job back.
Yes and that can add up to a lot more if Microsoft increase the monthly prescription over the next few years. TBH, whilst it appears to be a great simulation, if having to fly on their servers (as being the only way to access their flight simulation), then you really do need a reliable provider with fast internet connection......I sometimes fly on-line in Cliffs of Dover and can tell you it is a nightmare when I lose connection and having to re-connect then find that I have to start all over again! Just imagine lining up for take-off and then your connection dropping out, I know it doesn't happen all the time but honestly......It would drive me bonkers!!Looks like $10 a month, let us see how Lockheed Martin respond to this.

Nigel.

Re: Microsoft Launch new FSX version
A good or bad thing it's too early to judge but I think a streaming based subscription model is going to become a much larger part of the market in general over the next few years. Particularly with console gaming (not talking this FS game in particular with this reply).
With technology like Google Stadia (which I'm excited to have on pre-order) being released imminently it could become very popular.
I think the developers are going to have to find a fair way to balance it for those who live in rural areas though.

Lovely to see you back, Rob!
Sorry about your rough trot.
As far as this new FSX goes, definitely pie in the sky for me.
I'm lucky if I get 1Mbps, and I quote:
we learned just how much the service will set us back – $9.99 / £8.99 (about AU$14) per month for unlimited games – and just how good a connection we'll need (35Mbps for full 4K HDR/60fps).

Mike, no problem. Just fly something slow, like a Bleriot.
