The Royal Flying Doctor Service

Post by Airspeed »

Thought you may like to know that according to a publication celebrating 90 years service, the RFDS uses 18 highway landing strips.
All these names are followed by "ROADSTRIP", which I'm not going to type 18 times.
South Australia
CHADWICK
TRAEGER

New South Wales
SHANNON'S CREEK

Western Australia
AGNEW
BALLADONIA*
EUCLA
MADURA
MADURA 2
NANUTARRA
SANDSTONE
TJUKAYIRLA

Queensland
BIRDSVILLE
BIRDSVILLE EAST
BALLADONIA*
WARBRECCAN
MCKINLAY
DOUGALD RIVER MINE
GREGORY DOWNS

I am at a loss to explain how Balladonia* gets two mentions, in QLD and WA. The Queensland entry mentions that it is "East of Windora", which can be found in Queensland, but a very long way from Western Australia. Searching Google and their own website produces no information.

Hey Mike,

I think your Google's broken. I typed "Balladonia" and it added the wa which yielded heaps including Wikipedia. How could we forget it when Skylab fell on it?

Paul
It's not a 'bird', it's an aeroplane or an aircraft

Hi Paul,
Turns out that my Google isn't broken, but my observatory skills were. Bit distracted after a tooth extraction last Wednesday; jaw is still rather tender.
